About us

Welcome to Downend Horticultural Society. We are a friendly group of garden-loving individuals who meet once a month, on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7.30pm. Our meetings are held at Downend Assembly Hall, Salisbury Road, Downend, Bristol, BS16 5RA.

Our evenings start with tea/coffee with homemade cakes and biscuits. We also have a raffle. From about 8.00pm we listen to a speaker on a horticultural-related subject, until around 9.00pm.

At our evening meeting in April, we hold our spring show, when members bring along plants/flowers/produce to exhibit. Prize cards and cups are given out at the end of the judging process.

In August we hold our summer show on the 3rd Saturday, in the afternoon, also at the Assembly Hall. This show is open for anyone to enter exhibits. Again, there are prize cards and cups for the winners.

At our March meeting, plug plants and cuttings of plants are distributed to be grown on and exhibited at the summer show, and also at the November meeting.

The entry charge is £2 for non-members and £1 for members (including refreshments). Membership costs £17 for the year.

Be assured of a warm welcome. Please see our attached programme. For more information, please contact Hilary Walton on 0117 979 2832. Come and join us when you can!
